Farewell to Will McWhinney -
LEAP’s Honorary Founding Elder
I had the honor and delight of knowing and spending time with Will in the “Men’s Group” which began November 2004. We met every Monday @ Will’s to sit in a circle (of sorts) and talk about matters that we all cared about. Which was everything. Nothing was too big … or too small to contemplate together. Will was very much the godfather of the group. This was the rich soil in which LEAP germinated. Will was there when LEAP was a seed of a thought … and over the weeks and months, he watered, nurtured, cajoled, inspired it into being. As it grew, and my bi-continental existence took me away from that beloved circle, I had to contend with brief moments by his bedside on the way from or to the airport. His support and affirmation of me and my work never wavered and he devoured my stories with gusto. He also LOVED our newsletters! As I take my little steps on this path of change, I frequently ask “What would Will say?” when I arrive at a fork, stumble, fall, get tired or lose hope. Will, I hold a special place in my heart for you … I hear you cheering me on and encouraging me. I feel your hand and see your smile. Thank you for everything. Thank you for being you. LEAP wouldn’t be without you.
With deep respect, love and gratitude,
Cynthia
