SAVING TANJUNG ARU BEACH

Among numerous and diverse issues in which LEAP has taken an advocacy role, the fight to save Kota Kinabalu’s only natural beach from mega-development has been a major challenge. This on-going work has included facilitating public forums and workshops visioning alternative futures for the beach, providing detailed comments on the Special Environmental Impact Assessment, holding events on the beach and working with other groups and individuals advocating preserving the beach in its natural state. LEAP also initiated work on dealing with problems such as sewage and water pollution.

LEAP places great emphasis on transparency and inclusivity and hopes the Save Tanjung Aru Beach movement will empower civil society and lead to authorities listening to the voice of the people and  treasuring this priceless natural asset.
