LEAP is engaged with numerous indigenous and local community-based organizations in Sabah in an effort to transform communities by building capacity and creating mutually empowering processes to secure their livelihoods by developing alternative economies and by promoting the role of communities in sustainable use and protection of natural resources.
A multilevel collaborative process led by LEAP and its partners have over the last 10 years helped indigenous and local communities in Sabah to create opportunities for themselves to continue to thrive in the face of globalization, climate change, mass exploitation of natural resources, extinction of wildlife and increasing social inequalities.
LEAP engages in efforts to facilitate communication between stakeholders and bring greater transparency to discussions and planning for projects and future infrastructure development.
LEAP facilitates work that helps to protect Borneo’s extraordinary biodiversity, including supporting innovative projects on Sunda Pangolins, Sun Bears, Sumatran Rhinos, Sharks and Rays, as well as habitat protection.
Forever Sabah (FS) is a 25-year effort birthed by LEAP Spiral in 2011 to support Sabah's transition to a diversified, equitable, circular economy. Now involving civil society, NGOs, government and the private sector, it is a multi-sectoral initiative that is founded on the principles of equity, integrity, inclusiveness, balance, justice, custodianship and shared responsibility.
